The child support services division of state
family courts normally maintain a staff of judges,
social workers, officers and other support personnel
to protect and serve children caught in divorce and
abuse proceedings. Some argue that
non-custodial parents ordered to make child support
payments suffer the burden of paying for and
maintaining these expensive court services
bureaucracies.
Court services attempt to keep track of support
payments and look out for the welfare of the children
involved with the court. If support payments are
not being made, the court can make investigations, and
place pressure on the non-custodial parent to comply
with the court's orders.
