The Truth In Lending Act is part of the the
Consumer Credit Protection Act as passed by the U.S.
Government. It is administered by the Federal
Reserve Board through the enforcement of Regulation
z. The Truth In Lending Act requires
that lenders disclose to borrowers in easily
understandable language, the terms and conditions of
a proposed loan or mortgage. Particular
emphasis is placed on disclosure of the interest
rate, costs and charges related to the loan.
Certain unethical practices are also prohibited by
the Act.
The Truth In Lending Act was created to define
uniform interest rate calculations and provide the
consumer with accurate, comparable full disclosure
before signing for a loan. Ceilings on certain
fees and charges were set by the Act. It deals
with the various types of loans and applies to all
loans issued in the United States.
